Hello! I am Michele Szarek, a freelance show writer specializing in themed entertainment and children’s media. I thrive on developing inventive concepts and crafting compelling scripts while collaborating closely with clients to achieve their project goals. Passionate about finding unique ways to make attractions inclusive and accessible for everyone, I utilize over twenty years of experience in entertainment production and project management to help those I work with. I like to share my expertise in and excitement for storytelling to construct immersive experiences that resonate with audiences.
Before transitioning into show writing, I built a robust career in the animation industry, driven by an interest in crafting impactful stories and visually dynamic content for global audiences. This same desire fuels my current work in show writing. In my previous roles, I led teams and mentorship communities, centering my leadership style around active listening and understanding. This approach allowed me to move projects forward efficiently, drawing on my knowledge and extensive expertise.
My diverse professional experience in the entertainment industry, spanning roles in talent management, voice casting, and production management at animation studios of varying sizes, in addition to my prior experience across other industries– from sales and marketing to start-ups and the pharmaceutical industry– equips me to be a proactive, adaptable, and results-driven writer. I am committed to sharing my talents with clients and colleagues while also mentoring others in the animation and themed entertainment industries. I am actively involved with communities at Boston University, Boston College, Women In Animation, and the Themed Entertainment Association.
I always remember where my desire for a creative, story-driven career started. Growing up in North Branford, CT, I was inspired by Disney films and theme parks, which fueled my ambition to pursue a career in animation and themed entertainment. From small town beginnings, I moved to Hollywood to chase my dreams, and I continually like to inspire others to dream big and work hard.
In my writing, I draw from my background in production leadership, working closely with creative leadership, executive teams, and studio leadership– and a passion for storytelling. I strive to inspire through what I create and write, always keeping in mind my father’s advice to “Reach for the brass ring always, you only need to catch it once." I certainly strive for the "brass ring" everyday, constantly pushing thinking, while marrying nostalgia with the present and the new, so we can all journey on new creative adventures together.
When I’m not busy bringing magical ideas to the page to be seen in themed experiences and worlds, I enjoy making magical memories together with my family out in the world. My journey from Connecticut to Hollywood serves as a reminder to me, constantly, and I hope it serves to motivate others too— regarding the power of dreams and the importance of resilience!
